Crystal over an island, where the room is worked in as much as looked at.
Over an island
An island wants light along its length rather than at its centre, which is why a linear composition or a run of separate pendants usually beats a single chandelier. Spacing is set from the island's dimensions, and the drop is set so the fixture clears the sightline of anyone standing across the counter.
Practical considerations
A kitchen fixture is closer to heat and airborne cooking residue than one in a dining room. Crystal cleans easily, but the arrangement matters: open compositions with accessible elements are far easier to maintain than densely dressed ones. We will say plainly which designs suit a working kitchen and which do not.
